Long weekend in Mendoza - The Junkyard Find

When visiting the Alfajor factory in "Playa de Lujan" y devised some wrecked cars in a field, so I went to check it out and find some semi striped Argentine built cars that belonged to a gentlemen that was selling grilled chicken at the roadside.

So after asking permission I captured some great HDR shots of his collection and also purchased a whole grilled chicken which I ate with the help of a stray puppy that was nearby,

Weekend Getaways - San Pedro - Feria de las Colectividades

San Pedro is a touristic town that atracts mainly people from Buenos Aires and Rosario, two of the largest cities in Argentina.

There are many fairs anf festivals organized there yearly mainly promoting their main products like flowers,oranges,peaches and Ensaimada ( a yummy Mallorcan treat.)

I happened to visit during the "Feria de las Colectividades" which is held right at the main square of the city.

There were many kiosks with the usual trinkets seen in argentine fairs but also some excellent asados done right on the main street, where you could buy meat and sausage sandys.

In Passing snapshot - Carriages in San Antonio

Like any rural country Argentina has a fine selection of carriages and horses that are displayed ocationally at local fairs, this family wagon with four horses was part of a parade in san antonio de Areco.

Weekend Getaways - San Pedro

Located 164 clicks away from Buenos Aires halfway to Rosario The city of San Pedro is an ideal place for a weekend escapade.

small city or large town it has the ideal combination of picturesque streets with beautiful architecture left over from times of wealth and a nice view of the river from a park perched over the small cliffs that surround the city.

there are also a variety of restos that offer the traditional parrilla and some more contemporary cuisine.

there are also two stairs that lead to the river called, Escalera de las flores done with beautiful mosaics in the form of flowers.

Gringo´s beware Olives have pits in Argentina

Inevitably when in Argentina you will want to sink your teeth into a delicious empanada or an extra greasy slice of pizza that are the trade marks of fine Argentine food.
But just a heads up, over here most olives contained in these dishes have pits. mabee you have´nt considered how spoiled north Americans are at having unpitted olives so you can bite without fear.
well not in Argentina, here the macho eating manners rule and olives have pits, so if you do´nt want to lose any fillings or teeth all together be cautious when biting empanadas.

Long weekend in Mendoza - Alfajores "Entre Dos"

When visiting Mendoza you will probably see ads for Alfajores "Entre Dos" which seems to be the latest rage. I will not explain what an alfajor is, but these recently launched variety are quite good.

I went to check out the place where they make and sell these treats. Located at the Lujan de cuyo beach around an hour from the city, it can be accessed by car or inter urban bus.
at the spot you can buy all sorts of sweet treats like dulce de leche,chocolates and of course their premium alfajores with fillings that include Cognac and whisky as well as the orange-dark chocolate one.

The location is also worth while visiting cuz just across the road sits the river and beach with a great scenery.

Long weekend in Mendoza - Nightlife in Aristides

Like most cities in Argentina, Mendoza has a night life district called Aristides, an adjacent neighbourhood walking distance from the downtown core.

Basically this is the place to go dine at fancy restos and find everyone, cuz Mendoza at night can be very empty streeted.
