Weekend Getaways - Eating in Zarate - Parrilla ley Primera

In Zarate there´s a Riverside walk that you will most likely visit called the Costanera E. Buscaglia, and being there you will be probably be tempted to have lunch or dinner.
There are basically two main places to Eat, one serves fish and the other one is a Parrilla called "Ley Primera".

For our readers benefit we checked the latter and discovered that it serves a very good parrilla accompanied by some delicious oven baked bread.
The price is alright and the service is good.

Weekend Getaways - Zarate day trip by train

Last Sunday we managed to got to Zarate for the day, located 83 clicks north of Buenos Aires, you can get there by taking the Electric and Diesel trains from the Mitre Railroad.

It takes roughly two and a half hours each way if you do the transfer on schedule.

There´s a small riverside walk with some restaurants and then you have the Bridges that cross to Entre Rios province and that rise 50 meters above the river, you can also bring your bicycle on the train which will assure your transportation in Zarate.

At the Campeonato Federal de Asado 2018

This year was the third edition of the Federal Asado championship, held this time in the Mataderos neighbourhood, a place that takes its name from the slaughterhouses it houses.

Besides the competition itself there are dozens of kiosks that serve the traditional meat cuts grilled in the typical argie fashion.

The competition was held in the main square amphitheatre and consisted of 5 teams representing different Argentine provinces each one grilling a fine peace of meat.

After which a panel of judges from acclaimed restaurants and cook schools ruled over to see who made the best asado.

This years title went to the team from the southern Chubut province.

Thumbs up for this years edition of vivi francia held on the streets that surround the beautiful building of the French embassy in Buenos Aires.

This was a weekend packed with activities in Buenos Aires, but due to bad weather many were postponed leaving the french event to stand alone.

And so it was that thousands of people attended and got visit the interior of the embassy, with a cue that stretched several blocks and enjoy pop music and an outdoor market full of french goodies.

the already famous macaroons were there along with baguettes, creme brule etc.

Weekend Getaways - San Antonio de Areco

San Antonio de Areco is a small city that lies 113km north of the City of Buenos Aires located beside the Areco river.
It has been declared a city of historic interest by the Argentine government and is recognised for being the homeland of "Don Segundo Sombra" the main character of a renowned novel written by Ricardo Guiraldes.

If you go on the peak of summer season you will find all sorts of Festivals all centered around the Gaucho traditions, it will probably be crowded as well.

But if you go off season you can enjoy strolling along its quiet streets or sitting beside the river and enjoying a good Asado, a must in the pampas.

It is also a place to buy good quality Argentine crafts.

Another interesting aspect of Buenos Aires are the dancing classes given at different parks on the weekend that can range from Folclore, Tango or swing.
I saw this lady at a Malambo dancing class given at the Barrancas de Belgrano Park on a Sunday afternoon.

Weekend Getaways - To Zarate by train

Tere´s always something to do in Buenos Aires but if you feel like exploring the surrounding cities, here´s something for you.

The city of Zarate is located 90km north of Buenos Aires practically bordering the Entre Rios Province. You have several ways to get there, either by car bus or train. I chose the latter which takes around 2 to 3 hrs each way.

You have to take the Mitre Railway to Jose Leon Suarez and get of ta Villa Ballester station, then catch the diesel train to Zarate, which passes each two hours, so make sure you check the schedule before embarking in Buenos Aires.

You can find hundreds of monuments in Buenos Aire's parks one of the being a replica of Lady liberty designed by Gustav Eiffel was bought by the city and shipped to Buenos Aires in October 1886, and was displayed here 20 days before the inauguration of its colossal sister in Ney York

You can see it in the Bararncas de Belgrano park close to the intersections of La Pampa and 11 de Septiembre.

The 2018 "Feria Masticar"
