La Rural 2018 - Same old

Another year comes to its second half and like always comes the "feria Rural", the centenary anual Agriculture and cattle exhibition that gathers argentina´s fines live stock and agriculture producers.

Besides the usual fine horses and same old food kiosks there are some great cook classes given by renowned Argentine cooks.

An interesting change was seeing Gustavo Rovira painting a country scene live.

His paintings display beautiful technique and lively colours.

The trip to Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia - The Border

This past January I had a two week interval, so I decided to go visit some friends in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia. My intention was tho then go to La Paz, Titi Caca Lake, the Uyuni salt fields, and after go to Northern Chile and down to Santiago, and then to Buenos Aires.
I was going to do this by bus, so I was told tha the best border crossing from Argentina to Bolivia to go to Santa Cruz was Salvdor Mazza.
I took a bus from Buenos Aire´s bus terminal Retiro, that took more than 24 hours to make to Salvador Mazza.
When I finally arrived I realised that the town was very small and that the path to cross to Bolivia was through a shanty town with muddy dirt streets.

when you make to the crossing you go a cross Yacuiba, Bolivia that ends up being a much larger city than Salvador Mazza.
there is a lot of foot traffic with people hauling goods from either side of the border.
It is quite easy to cross with both sides being quite fast with tourists.

Friendship in Argentina, "El día del Amigo"

El día del Amigo or friendship day is a pseudo Holiday that Argentines celebrate every July 20th, right smack in the midst of winter ( I guess to prove that you really care about friends in spite of miserable weather)
Its origins go back to the late 60s, but nobody knows for sure.
The objective is to gather with friends and party or dine, it extends to the immediate weekend and even the whole week. some groups buy gifts for each other but it can take many forms according to age, gender or social strata.

The Agony of looking for a job in Buenos Aires # 3 - Working in a Restaurant´s Kitchen

(continued from previous posts)
Taking advantage that I was studying gastronomy  I decided to check out the restaurant job options in Buenos Aires, so I began spreading resumes all over town but concentrating in my home neighbourhood that happens to be Palermo where most of the fancy Restos are located.
My cook resume is basic but has some experience and the fact that I am pursuing my chef studies helps.
so actually i was called to several interviews for positions raging from kitchen help to supervisor and head of Com's.
I ended up doing some trial days at a restaurant in "Las Cañitas" called "las Cholas" that has good service and food but I realised that they exploit their employees since my post that was to be the evening manager of the whole establishment during 10 hours 6 days a week was paid 400 pesos when the minimum pay for that amount of hours ranges from 1000 to 1200 pesos, the people that worked in the kitchen earned much less and the waiters had to survive off their tips, most of them being Venezuelans that are here escaped from their country.

In Passing snapshot - Cordoba cruizer

caught this Police cruizer in the city orf Cordoba, Northern Argentina, as I mentioned with the bmw cruizers of London, I do like the looks of a nice car in a police cruizer paint, but I do'nt think that police should have better vehicles than what the average person can affford, since this vehicle is an expensive unit here in Argentina.
