Long Weekend in Cordoba - Sacred Heart Church

Having talked about Cordoba´s religious architecture and considering that during my last stay I was doing photo op on churches, i have to tell you about one of the most beautiful churches in the City.

The Church of the Sacred Heart is located in neighbourhood of Nueva Cordoba which was an addition to the city after its Colonial splendour.
Also called the church of the Capuchins, since it belongs to the Capuchin religious order a branch of the Franciscans, its official name is the Sacred Heart church.

Built with donations from wealthy families that lived in this neighbourhood during a wealthy period in Argentine history, the job was given to Italian architect Augusto Ferrari who designed the Temple in Neo Gothic style whit dyed cement fixtures and with only one tower purposely built like that and not the fruit of a shipwreck or other calamities attributed to the ship carrying the second tower.

If you go I do recommend you take the tour to one of the towers where you can see the surrounding areas and get acquainted with more details about this marvelous work of architecture.

The trip to Bolivia - Peru - Downtown Lima, Saint Rose of Lima church

Now, if you ever wondered who Rose of Lima was, this is the place where she was was born.

Saint Rose of Lima was a member of the third order Dominicans in Lima in the late 1500s. She was declared a Saint by the Catholic church because of hes mysticism and charity towards the needy of her time.

The Church that stands today in her honer was built adjacent to her house, since she belonged to one of the most wealthy families of Lma at that time.
This church is among the churches that you will probably encounter while in downtown Lima.

The Rosario Open House 2019

The Open house is an International architecture festival which started in London U.K in 1992 that has spread to 45 cities worldwide. The idea is to grant acces to emblematic buildings in each city that normally are not open to the public.

Two main cities host this event in Argentina, One being its faustuous capital city Buenos Aires and the other Rosario which sits 400 clics from Buenos Aires.

Rosario being an important river port that managed to export and import directly to Europe has a rich architectural heritage.

Its downtown area is crowded with beautiful buildings with rich cuppolas mainly of european influence that can visited from inside on the days of the anual Open House.

El día de los monumentos in Buenos aires

Buenos Aires has definitely one of the best cultural offers in the world, and many for free. On the first weekend of May, we had the "Día de los Monumentos" which featured visits to many of the monumental buildings that populate this city.

It ran during the whole weekend but I only managed to visit on Sunday, that was a gloomy rainy day ideal for indoor visits.

Here we see some pics of The Government house museum, the National bank of Argentina and the Casa Calise.

The fundación Cassará and its Terrace

The Pablo Cassara foundation is located on Av. de Mayo 1194 in the building occupied by one of the old hotels that use to sit on that important thoroughfare.

I will not get into what the foundations goals are, but into the event they organised on March 9th, which was to open its premises to visitors.

They gave a tour of the building and its terrace which holds an excellent view of all the other fine constructions on Avenida de Mayo, which is one of Buenos Aire´s richest architecturally speaking.

From its renovated deck-terrace we could get an excellent view of all the adjacent building  along with an historical explanation.

At the "48H Open House Buenos Aires 2016"

The greatest event for photography and architecture buffs in Buenos Aires, the  Open House Buenos Aires which held its 4th edition this year is the best way to visit and photograph buildings that no always open to the public eye.

Part of an international family of Open House cities and organised by cohabitar urbano which is a civil association that promotes integration among the city and its people.

There were over 50 buildings and homes spread around the city. I managed to do 3 on Saturday and two on Sunday, one of them being the Bencich buildings at Roque Saenz Peña and Florida, smack downtown and one of Buenos Aires iconic intersections.
All the visited were guided by professionals and were brief and concise.
I do recommend doing it next year if your in town.

Holy week in Cordoba - La Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón

If you´re into Neo Gothic architecture, you should'nt miss out visiting the "Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón " in Cordoba. Also known as the capuchin church, you´ll find it at the intersection of Buenos Aires and Obispo de Oro streets.

Built from 1924 til 1934 it was part of the Europeanization of Cordoba that took place in the Barrio "Nueva Cordoba" with the construction of Palaces and important government building that emulate the glories of the Old Continent.

The church could be in better shape, but it still holds its appeal both internally and externally. It has two towers which represent the mortality of men ( the one without a cuppola) and the immortality of the soul.

In all one of the many churches in Cordoba city that are worth visiting.

Holy Week in Cordoba - La Manzana Jesuitica

La Manzana Jesuita in Cordoba Capital is actually a World Heritage site located downtown Cordoba. It contains an University, a school and a Church-Monastery.

You will not miss it, since its smack downtown Cordoba and as its name says its is a whole block of Colonial architecture. Cordoba was inserted into the Paraguay Jesuit province which comprised a series of churches schools and farms that belonged to the Jesuit order in South America.

The site makes for excellent colonial architectural shots, and is one of the few authentic colonial sites left in Argentina.
