Long weekend in Rosario - Puerto Nuevo

Puerto Nuevo is the recently redeveloped old port which houses some high end buildings and restos

It is right along the Costanera and can be walked to from the downtown area. It is a similar idea to what you will see in Puerto Mdero, Buenos aires, but with a more prestigious view of the river.

Long weekend in Rosario - Basilica Nuestra Señora del Rosario

Now, for a city called Rosary in province named Holy Faith, I was expecting to find more sumptuous churches in the downtown area, but to my dissapointment there is only one church worth visiting which you will find right across the main park.

The Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary is Rosario´s Roman Catholic Cathedral and is simple and proportionate on the outside and well ornamented on its interior, it is open mainly on the afternoons and around service time.

Long weekend in Rosario - The city

Rosario is an important Port city in the Santa Fe Province, 300 clicks north of Buenos Aires, the Argentine capital.
Right on the shores of the Parana River it gained economic independence from the all encompassing port of Buenos Aires and became the third largest city in Argentina.

It has beautiful downtown area with many classic monuments and buildings that are witnesses of an era of prosperity.
Being 4 hrs away by road it makes it a great weekend destination, you will get to stroll its wide avenues and riverside walk (Costanera) and enjoy its mild weather, except at summer time when it gets really hot.

The Rosario Open House 2019

The Open house is an International architecture festival which started in London U.K in 1992 that has spread to 45 cities worldwide. The idea is to grant acces to emblematic buildings in each city that normally are not open to the public.

Two main cities host this event in Argentina, One being its faustuous capital city Buenos Aires and the other Rosario which sits 400 clics from Buenos Aires.

Rosario being an important river port that managed to export and import directly to Europe has a rich architectural heritage.

Its downtown area is crowded with beautiful buildings with rich cuppolas mainly of european influence that can visited from inside on the days of the anual Open House.

83 Rosaio Hostel

In a quick trip to Rosario, Santa Fe, I stayed at the 83 Hostel in  downtown Rosario.

Definitelly well located downtown Rosario with anice view of Calle Cordoba, decent beds and a very basic breakfast, but if you want to be close to the downtown amenities, its a good choice.

Dia de la Bandera in Rosario - Santa Fe

This last weekend was a long one due to the conjunction of two holidays, a one timer on Friday celebrating the anniversary of Guemes a local "Caudillo" and "Argentine flag day on Monday 20th"

So I decided to hop over to Rosario, Santa Fe, to participate in the celebrations at the Flag Monument, or Monumento as the locals call it.

The Argentine president attended himself and there was an official act, I rather stayed with the local folk, that tend to be very friendly, and enjoyed the free Mate Cocido served by the Malvinas veterans and had a big plate of "Locro" a traditional stew with meat and beans .
