Regimiento Patricios Aniversary

The Patricio's Regiment is the oldest military institution in Argentina being formed in 1806 even before the country´s independence.
Since yesterday was it´s anniversary they held an open house event where you could visit its premises.

One of the features was its museum which holds artifacts and scale models of Buenos Aires at the time of the English invasion in the early 1800s.

The regiment has a very privileged location right in the Palermo neighbourhood so it was crowded with families with kids that enjoyed a display of jeeps, military bands and food trucks.

Feria Masticar 2017 edition

Its time again for the "Feria Masticar" in Buenos Aires, same venue as last year and unfortunatelly same old.

Same food trucks, same food stands, same lame cooking lessons. Nevertheless I`m not rejecting the event entirely, just saying that there`s nothing new under the sun, here (besides it was raining on opening day)

It still is a good place to get some organic foods that you normally ca`nt buy otherwise, and indulge in Food truck junk food, but do`nt expect anything new.

Another classic at the Palermo soho hood is the Taberna Odin, located at Honduras 5090 very close to Plaza Serrano, a sure fire tourist trap.

Still the ambiance is quite comfy and their craft beer selection and prices are quite acceptable.

This cosy pub located at "Las cañitas" in Palermo has its own attractions compared with the other craft beer joints that keep popping up in Buenos Aires.

The place is quite ample with tall ceillings and has the beer making equipment at sight, giving the place a touch of authenticity.

I tasted several beers and was parcial to the honey stout golden Ale that they brew.

Ten top beer joints in Buenos Aires - Antares - Palermo

The Antares pub located in Armenia 1447 in Palermo, is one of the several pubs that belong to the Antares brewing company.

The venue is quite big and as many other pubs in Palermo was built on the lot of a former car garage, which makes for an ample space with a tall ceiling.

It has a long bar that can accommodate many thirsty customers, and a happy hour that runs till 8pm.
I had the scotch Ale which was quite good.

Ten top Beer Joints in Buenos Aires - Nola, Cocina Cajun - Palermo

Nola´s Pub is located at Gorriti 4289 in Palermo. If you crave for Cajun chicken and Pecan pie, it´s probably the only place that you will find them in Buenos Aires.

As most of the other beer places it has a reasonable variety of Crafted Beers, but a wider food menu specialising in chicken, also the fried version is quite good. Up to date it has the cheapest happy hour pint at ars$40, which is under 3 bucks.

At the 2016 Feria Masticar

This weekend i had the chance to visit The 2016 edition of the "Feria Masticar" (Chewing fair), held at the Dorrego Market at Zapiola 50 in Palermo.

I have to say that it grew quite a bit since I last went there two years ago, mostly with the addition of Food trucks, that seem to be all the rage here in Buenos Aires.

The fair was quite complete featuring organic foods kiosks, utensils stands, and a variety of food trucks and kiosks, along with cooking books.

On Saturday you could also mingle with your famous food TV celebs like the Petersen brothers or Maru Botana, that made an appearance or gave cooking lessons.

Ten top beer joints in Buenos Aires - Jerome - Palermo

Jerome´s Pub or Beer republic, is located at Malabio1401 in Plaermo Viejo, Its one of the many Crafted Beer pubs that has sprung up in the area.

It specializes in Crafter beer from Mendoza an mountanous areas in Argentina. I was very satisfied with the "Roja andina" and the Scothish Ale I tried.

I have also to praise their serving portions. We ordered the fries and received a humongous platter with a heap of french fries, and the real stuff made from actual taters, another fine product of the argentine countryside.

The 42nd Feria del Libro in Buenos Aires

This week I had the chance of dropping by the annual book fair in Buenos Aires, that´s held at the Predio Rural de Palermo.

Buenos Aires being one of the Main editorial capitals in South America and the Spanish world, its natural that all the important editorials and bookstores will have a kiosk at the fair.

From religious books to psychology and even comics this the place to go if you´re looking for a literary piece in Spanish.

At the Malbec world day

I had the pleasure of dropping by the Malbec World day held at the Palermo Horse track. As its name says its a place of gathering for all the Argentine Mlabec producers.

In the morning and early afternoon you could visit the various oenology's schools and associations in Argentina which would give you samples of different varieties of Malbec.

And after 7pm you could tour the tables with different makes of the wine variety and sample wines till you drop.Unlike many Canadian wineries that charge you and give you a sip of each wine in a puritan fashion, here you could indulge, with moderation of course.

Ten top Beer Joints in Buenos Aires - On Tap - Palermo Hollywood

On Tap, located at Cosra Rica 5527 in the Palermo Holliwood neighbourhood is Bar dedicated to local craft beer or "cerveza artesanal" as they call it here.

It has a nice selection of ales, bitters and dark beers served in different sizes. Its a small place that generally overflows towrads the sidewalk.
I had the simil Guinnes beer called Gambrinus and was satisfied with its bitternesss. Even though Argie craft beers tend to be overpriced and are´nt as good as their canadian peers, the prices at "On Tap" were quite accesible.
