The Dorrego Flea Market

Not too far away from all the downtown tourist attractions in the city of Buenos Aires you will find a flea Market located in the neighbourhood of Colegiales.

The "Mercado de las Pulgas" Located at Avenida Dorrego 1650 probably used to sell the typical trinquets sold at flea markets worldwide since 1988, but with recent renovations has upgraded to bigger items like furniture or small motorbikes.

All its wares are neatly arranged in quiosks wich specialize in different items.

It provides for a nice stroll through antiques and gadgets alike.

Long weekend in Tucuman - Kibe y arabs

I´ve mentioned in previous posts that in Tucuman you can find the best empanadas and Milanesa sandys.

But there is a third contender to this tummy filling contest, and I´m talking bout the "Kibe" or "Kipe" as they write it in Tucuman.
Since there is a big arab comunity in the city, they have brought over some of their dishes and have popularized the kibe and even in a sanswich variaty which I have never had before.

Now the best place to eat "Kibe sandwich" is the "Mercado del Norte"located at Maipu 241, smack downtown San Miguel.

The trip to Bolivia - Peru - Downtown Lima, Mercado Municipal Ramon Castilla

While visiting the historical Lima neighbourhood you might want to step into the local produce Market.

the Ramon Castilla Municipal Market is a wholesale produce market where you can find everything you need to make typical Peruvian food or even bring home some ingredients.

Not as seedy as other markets found in remote areas it has the right amount of colour and cleanliness.
Nevertheless you´ll find your share of non refrigerated meat to which north americans are not used to.

Northern Argentina - Salta - El mercado municipal

If you prefer to buy your goods at the local Market or fair, instead of the omnipresent supermarket, I have the Place for you in Salta.
Located at Av. San Martin 780, a few blocks from the central area, you can go there to get your bulk coca leaves (instead of being ripped off at the tourist spots) or any type of fresh produce or meats.

Trinkets, colourful blankets or just to look around.

There are also a couple of food joints that serve very good empanads and humitas, and do pick up a pound or two of Andean potatoes, if you have´nt tried them you wo´nt regret it.

An for that matter anything you would buy for a higher price anywhere else in the city.

Stuff you find in San Telmo

Walking through the streets of San Telmo neighbourhood in Buenos Aires, I bumped into some very interesting items.

Lots of religious articles, mostly in silver.

Fine cristalware and silverware.

And the classic seltzer bottles called sifones which make great decoration pieces.

El Puerto de frutos en Tigre

The market known as "El Puerto de Frutos" in the municipality of Tigre in the Province of Buenos Aires is a small port on the banks of the Lujan river, where in the past was used to unload all the produce that came from the Parana delta and thus was sent to Buenos Aires.

Nowadays it is a tourist trap-produce market, where you can find all sorts of handy crafts and food items.

Having been renovated in the last two decades this used to be a pretty marginal area of the city, but it is good heath now with the revitalisation of the whole of igre.

It certainly is a very pictouresque place to buy trinquets and to capture great pics.
