"La ciudad nos regala sabores" Picking fruit from the city´s trees.

As I mentioned before, there are plenty of free cultural activities to be done in Buenos Aires.
Some are hosted by the city, or associations or even private initiatives like " La ciudad nos regala sabores"( the city gifts us with flavours)

Started by Ludmila Medina who grew amazed at how many fruit trees that populate Buenos Aire´s sidewalks, many planted by the neighbours, she decided to create an association to help people find, identify and even harvest fruit from them.

Yesterday I went on a walk on the Versailles neighbourhood here in Buenos Aires, this hood sits at the west border of the city and is not very visited even by the locals, but it still has the charm of Buenos Aires of old and reflects the typical neighbourhood that has disappeared in other parts of the city.

Basically we walked the streets reviewing the fruit trees and even eatable weeds that just grow on the curbs, all of this with detailed explanations by Ludmila.
I highly recommend these walks, for more info I include their facebook page.

In Passing snapshot - Springtime in Buenos aires

The nicest time of the year to be in Buenos Aires in my opinion is between mid September and late November, when all the trees are blooming, this is a street shot of one my hood's streets.

Fall in between showers in buenos Aires

After three weeks of miserable rainy weather there was finally a series of sunny days that allowed the trees in Buenos Aires to get into Autumn mood.

I was fortunate to have some time and take some shots of the fall colours before the rain came back for another week.

The Botanical Gardens in Palermo

Last Sunday morn I decided to check out the "Jardin Botanico de Buenos Aires" located in the heart of Palermo across from Plaza Italia.

It was created by renown landscape artist "Charles Thays" who designed most of Buenos Aire´s parks. It´s an ideal place to relax and flee from the crowds that wander around Plaza Italia, and obviously if you´re into botanics you can get acquainted with all the local trees and plant species.

The place brings you back to the nineteenth century with its statues and fountains, but with the privilege of having wi-fi, allowing you to sit anywhere and access the web.

In passing snapshot - The urban tree lane

This pic was definitely taken in passing, hence its blurriness. The point is that cities with trees tend to give its inhabitants a certain serenity, something I´ve noticed in Montevideo.
In any case I found this stretch of Paraguay street very picturesque, adorned with a type of tree that here they call "Platano", found all over the city.

Jacaranda Time in Buenos Aires

When planting trees close to monuments always check with a photographer first ! Never the less I think the people that decided to plant Jacaranda  trees in Buenos Aires did a pretty good job.
The combination of nice architecture and colourful flowers  is soothing for the spirit besides providing excellent photo material.
For some ideas, check out this video.

Bosques de Palermo, a piece of Versailles

The "Bosques de Palermo" are a series of parks composed by Planetario Galileo Galilei, Jardín Botánico,Lago de Regatas, and el Rosedal. A kind of Central Park in Buenos Aires, but with a french accent, actually most of the garden were created by Charles thays, that also had rearranged the Versailles garden in Paris.

Its a pretty big area where you´ll find very nice french sculptures of animals and a variety of trees with beautiful leaves and flowers. Its one of those places to go running, walking or to read a book away from the hustle of the city.
