Exploring Patagonia - Ruta 40 - La ruta de los 7 Lagos

The 7 lake road or Ruta de los siete lagos goes from San Martin de los Andes to Villa la Angostura  (Neuquen province ) and is something really worth visiting it spans 70 clics and it circles seven of the most beautiful lakes in the province.


I had the oportunity to spend the last night at a camp site at the shores of one of the lakes and it brought me many flashbacks from my camping days in the graet lakes in Canada and the USA.

Exploring Patagonia - Ruta 40 - Villa La angostura

Villa La Angostura in the Neuquen province sits an hour and a half from Bariloche that is the biggest city in the area. Very popular in winter for its sky slopes it is also the southern entry point to the " Ruta de los 7 Lagos" which is why most people stop here in the summer time.

Villa la Angostura is basically a small town with all the shopping amenities for your excursion with some very nice restos pubs and hotels .

Now the provinces of Neuquen and Rio negro do not have as many kilometres of "Ruta 40" but they certainly have the most beautiful landscapes.

A series of valleys filled with lakes,rivers and mountains make breathtaking scenes that will make you want to stop every couple of miles.
