Long weekend in Mendoza - The Junkyard Find

When visiting the Alfajor factory in "Playa de Lujan" y devised some wrecked cars in a field, so I went to check it out and find some semi striped Argentine built cars that belonged to a gentlemen that was selling grilled chicken at the roadside.

So after asking permission I captured some great HDR shots of his collection and also purchased a whole grilled chicken which I ate with the help of a stray puppy that was nearby,

Some more shots can be vied at my 500px page.

Exploring Patagonia - Ruta 40 - Patagonian Beasts

When I talk about "Patagonian beasts" I´m not referring to the many dinosaurs found there, nor to the guanacos that populate this vast extension of Land.

This post is dedicatted to the vehicles that are brought from all over the world to ride through patagonia and the rest of the Americas.

Be them Land Rovers or Benz, even some overkill all terrain trucks that would fit right in at the Dakar Rally, they are fine examples of all weather wheels that will do the job.

In passing snapshot - The Citroen Limo

Nowadays, there make limos out of basically any vehicle, this Citroen version is a new one and very representative of the classic Argentine cars of the 70s.
I snapped this one at Diagonal Norte in downtown Buenos Aires.

2016 Dakar in Buenos Aires

On Jan 1st I went to Tecnopolis on the edge of the city of Buenos Aires to see the vehicles that were being prepared for the Dakar rally.

Unfortunately they were being kept behind a tall fence making it impossible for the common folk to get a closer look at the machines.

Things got more interesting in the area reserved for the crews and support vehicles where I got closer to most of the trucks ans also managed to speak with the maintenance crews.

Most of the European truck manufacturers were represented along with Russians and Japanese, but I noticed very little north American presence.

At the Autoclasica in San Isidro

Today I give you some live news direct from Aotoclasiaca, here in San Isidro. For all you car buffs, like me, at this show you can see a large array of classic vehicles.

Held yearly at the San Isidro Horse racetrack.
http://autoclasica.com/web/, you can still make it there today or tomorrow.
the entrance fee is 120 pesos and it is well worth the price. They have miles of cars parked at the premises
as well as motorbikes, and even spare parts.

of course we are talking bout classics, this is not the Detroit or Frankfurt auto shows.

But they have a great collection of vintage cars from all over the world in mint condition.

As well as old colectivos, that are an icon of Argentine public transport.

In passing snapshots, the classics in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is a city of contrasts, on one hand you have the Colon theatre with world fame performances, and on the the other hand you  can be mugged right outside at any time.
Anyway I was´nt mugged yet and I still enjoy taking pics of vintage cars found parked on the streets.

A canadian relic - the Toronto made Overland

As funny as it may sound, in all my years living in Toronto, I never heard bout an overland car factory that had operated in the city. To my surprise when going over some shots I took at the old car show I covered in La Floresta, i saw that one of the early 1920's models was actually made in T.O.

It seems that overland was a division of Willys, later bought by jeep and GM, that had a factory located in Toronto the good. Funny that i came all the way to Uruguay to see one of these beauties for the first time.

In Passing Snapshot - the "San Lorenzo" Bus

Sometimes you snap a photo just cuz you like the shape or colour of something you see. On this occasion walking to a shoot in Villa Urquiza, y saw this red bus, and did some shots and was on my way. Upon further analysis,  I realised that this was an unique bus only to be found in Buenos Aires. First because its a classic Mercedes Benz "Colectivo" that circulated from the 60s till the early 90s in Buenos Aires. To such an extent that they even have one in the M.B. museum in Stuttgart. Secondly its painted with a red and blue theme dedicated to the "San Lorenzo" soccer club, that even has the Pope as one of its fans.

Proud Owner

Strolling through a neighbourhood fair in Montevideo I spoke with the proud owner of this 1931 Citroen Truck which he uses daily to carry his produce. Uruguay is full of these classics that are still running in perfect shape.

Under Repair

I really enjoy walking around the neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires, and see the classics under repair, plus the authentic cobble stone roads and vintage houses. These are not the recycled cobbles of the touristic areas that are renovated to look old.

Green power

This one runs on green fuel...I found this car among other rusted vehicles in Villa Ojo de Agua, in the Santiago del Estero province in Argentina, there was´nt anything special to see over there except for a mini car cemetery on an empty lot, wich produced many inspired images.
