Trip to Bariloche in Autumn - Llao Llao Hotel

The Llao Llao hotel is one of argentina´s most luxurious Hotels, considered a National historical monument.
Built in 1937 by Architect Alejandxro Bustillo in a Canadian Style (Whatever that means), it was inaugurated 1n 1938 and burnt to the ground a year later, it was later rebuilt and closed down until it reopened 1993.

If you can afford the price it is a spectacular place to stay in Bariloche, but if not you can still enjoy the view of the surrounding area.


Villa Lao Llao, the area where the Hotel was built is named after a fungi that grows on the alerce trees and which was considered sweet by the natives of the area, I was told that it isn't actually so delicious but I guess that they did not know sugar or honey so that had to do.


The location is really spectacular,. You can see the Nahuel Huapi and Moreno lakes from the Hotel´s entrance, it reminded me of The Banff Springs Hotel in the Rocky mountains in Canada.

Trip to Bariloche in Autumn - Capilla de San Eduardo

 

Some 25 clicks on Bustillo Avenue, out of Bariloche you will surely visit the Llao Llao area, there you´ll probably pass by St. Edwards chapel, an Icon of the Area, a small chapel built in 1938 in a lumberjack style by the same architect who built the Lla Llao Hotel at the time when Bariloche was a top destination for Argentina's wealthy families who also had their estancia´s houses built by Bustillo.

The chapel is built on a small hill from where there is also a beautiful view of the sourrounding Cerro Lopez, the Llao llao Hotel and Puerto Pañuelo.

 The church was built mostly with local wood (Alerce) and is quite picturesque inside, the altar features a cross shaped painting done by Raul Soldi a famous Argentine painter

Trip to Bariloche in Autumn - Lake Nahuel Huapi

 Beautiful lake Nahuel Huapi is the third largest lake in the Patagonian region after "Lago Argentino" and "Lago Lacar" in between the provinces of Rio Negro and Neuquen, with a surface of 530 square kms. and a maximum depth of 15.22 feet, resting 2510 feet above sea level. It even has a legend of a lake monster called the "Nahuelito" similar to its cousin at Loch Ness.

staying in Bariloche you are in for great sunrises and sunsets on its shores.

Really nice to hike or bike along its shores not so great for bathing since its of glacier origin it can be chilly even at the apex of summer.

Trip to Bariloche in Autumn

1500 km south- west from Buenos Aires sits the city of Bariloche in the Province of Rio Negro. Right on the shores of Nahuel Huapi Lake one of the largest Lakes in Argentina.

Bariloche is a year round Tourist destination being cooler than the rest of the country during the summer and having snow during the winter.

The city is spread mostly on the lake shore and has many nearby mountains that can be hiked or skied on and also several edifices built by famous Argentine architect Alejandro Bustillo.

Atis Bar, A cool place to hang out

In the San Telmo hood in Buenos Aires, there are plenty of vintage Bars to check out, some are tourist traps some not, Thanks' to a post on instagram, I discovered this lovely place, totally hidden from the street view.

Atis Bar located on Calle Peru 1024 in San Telmo is a typical Bar from Buenos Aires but is venue is decorated in the Andalucian style.

it follows the pattern of the "casas chorizo" (Sausage houses) which are built in narrow and deep lots, which makes for its charm. 

I was hoping to enjoy a drink or coffee here but due to Covid, there was a long line up to be there since gastronomic venues can only serve in outdoor areas, so for now I just took some pics.

 

Long Weekend in Cordoba - Day Trip Cuesta Blanca

Another interesting place to visit for the day is Cuesta Blanca which is only 50 clicks away from Cordoba Capital.

It has a main river with cute waterfalls that can be used as natural swimming pools with sand beaches.

Also there is a trail which is called "Sendero Bosquecito Serrano" which runs for two kilometers and brings you to a hill where you can see the surrounding areas and then down to the beaches, all while enjoying local flora and fauna.
 

Long Weekend in Cordoba - Day Trip to Alta Gracia - The Lourdes Sanctuary

While in Alta Gracia there is another place worth walking to. Its The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes which stands at the other side of the city looking from the main square.

But still in walking distance it´s a big field with a stone church and some religious amenities that offers a place of pece to relax in.
