El Club de pescadores de Buenos Aires

The Fisherman's club located at the Costanera Norte in Buenos Aires is one of those emblematic buildings of the city that you probably saw going or coming from the Aeroparque city airport.
Built in 1903 on a pier over the River Plate it resembles a Belgian Castle, its an ideal spot to frame a sunrise on  the river.

I´ve been here several times to shoot sunrises, but on a Sunday afternoon I stoped by to visit the interior, that boast an aquarium with the native species of the river plate, and also a restaurant that overlooks the river.
the premises are restricted to non members but if you ask politely they will let you look around, and you can lunch or dine at the resto without membership.

Best Parrillas in Buenos Aires -, Los Platitos, Costanera

Continuing with my series on meat eating, I would like to talk about La Costanera, wich is Buenos Aire´s river side walk. I was told that originally the best Parrillas were located there, and in the nineties they either moved or opened a branch in Puerto Madero.

Nevertheless you can still find some diehards that remained there, like the parrilla "Los Platitos", located at Av. Rafael Obligado, or Costanera, right in front of Parque de la Memoria, it´s considered as one of the historical parrillas of Costanera Norte.
Now to be frank I have heard complaints about the meat and service being bad and expensive, but in my case I went there with friends and we bought their famous Lomito sandwich which lived up to my expectations for a very reasonable price.

you can either take out and eat it watching the River Plate, or eat it at the counter, provided you find a spot. but I have to say that the quality of the meat was excellent, something that is not usual in sandwiches served here.

No wonder so many gringos live in Buenos Aires

Yeah I´m grounded in Buenos Aires for a while, and I´ve noticed that a lot of North Americans and Europeans are living or studying in Buenos Aires, without mentioning other Latin Americans that are studying at state run universities.
Anyhow, I´ve noticed that food, rent and transportation can be cheap if we measure in dollars, and a proof of that is some casual shopping I did at a discount super just a block away from home.
What you see in the pic set me back 127 pesos or 8.50 bucks American. Definitely very cheap compared to most other cities even in South America.
Now if you earn in pesos that´s another story, but I still think you can get by considering that the bus fare is 25c american.

To 10 pizza joints in Buenos Aires +1 - La Rey - Obelisco

Hey followers, after several month of my last post I am able to continue with this blog again.
Continuing with the ten top pizza joints in BA. Today I give you a +1.
La Rey ( named after its creator and owner Señor Rey), located on Corrientes 961, just half a block from the obelisk in downtown Buenos Aires. Its pizza is very good and you must try the "Especial La Rey" that comes with sweet peppers and the works, and do'nt pig out or you'll regret it .
As of price, it will be more expensive than other pizzerias, since its location demands higher prices. But you can always eat slices and be pretty stuffed as well.

I would say that on Corrientes Avenue you must Visit Guerrin, La Rey and Los Inmortales, just to  have a feel of the culinary scene in downtown Buenos Aires.

Reflections of the Consejo deliberante´s Tower

Like a pretty Lady the Consejo deliberante´s tower in Buenos Aires likes to see its self reflected on the windows around it. A typical view in Plaza de Mayo, this clock tower can also be found in the reflections on  the near by buildings.

In Passing snapshot - Best Buy copycat

I saw this sign in one of Montevideo's shopping streets. Someone obviously copied the Best Buy tag and translated it. I really do not think that the store actually belongs to Best Buy. So much for being original.

About good and bad taste in houses

I think that architecture is one the arts that influences us the most, since we are surrounded by it and we actually live in it. I´ve always criticised Sao Paulo for being a very ugly city, with few trees and lots of pollution, but Ive noticed that not everyone lives in factory-like buildings like the one above.

There are very few but nice Little middle class houses to be seen, among the clutter or hydro wires that abound in the city. You could argue that its an inevitable consequence of big industrialised cities, but I have to say that if you visit Mexico city for example, that is way bigger that Sao Paulo, you will find whole neighbourhoods filled with nice colonial houses, and even the poorest ones are painted in nice colours.
